The amount of information online and on social media is overwhelmingly helpful for deciphering the essence of being on the spectrum.ADHD, ASD, OCD, BPD. The terms are many, confusing, and overlapping.What can you do?Social Media is helpful, but filtering out the noise can be frustrating and difficult. However, people on the spectrum have found their voices to articulate better for us all the shades of the beautiful colours our minds can take.Here are some resources I found helpful in my journey from suspicion to diagnosis.Note: none of the following is sponsored content. My aim is to cut the research time for you, as I did it myself. If I can spare you a minute, I'm happy.***MY TOP PICKS1. Ellie Middleton's website. She was one of the most reliable and clear sources for me, including her book, (Un)masked.
2. What I Mean When I Say I Am Autistic, by Annie Kotowicz. This book gave me an "ah-ah" moment. I saw my little self trying to look smart when I had to read out loud and didn't understand a word I said, so I quickly re-read before answering the teacher's questions. Simple and effective, and a quick read.
3. Unmasking Autism, by Devon Price. One of the most recommended online, I haven't read it, but I heard good things.
4. The Embracing Autism website, also used by my assessor for a masking questionnaire.
5. Diagnostic Criteria from the DIVA Foundation

"I follow a few channels and people for different viewpoints.Russell Barkley has his own strong opinions and insights on ADHD, from years of research. A lot of his books focus more on being a supporter of people with ADHD. His videos are good reference points, though I know some others strongly disagree.Jess is a lot more playful, and talks from a place of lived experience. I've not tried her books yet, but her channel covers not just the highs, but the lows. She's a wonderful example of how important self-compassion is for us.Podcast A big range of people, good insights, although YMMV. The backlog means if there's a specific topic you want to listen to, then there is probably something on it.Comics for those of us who need a little laugh and to feel seen.Possibly a bit uk focused, but good for ND workplace insights. Theo is a great speaker in person and a proponent of diversity in many forms.Vampire Survivors A dangerous suggestion if you get hooked. I gave a lightning talk about using games like this to practise failing. It may sound like sucking the fun out of it, but paying a little more attention while you play and realising how the cycles apply to our day-to-day; that we can work in small chunks, and every step forward is a little meta progress. Each human being is unique. When you don't match a specific description, it doesn't mean you are wrong or right. We often think we're making it up, some people will tell us we are looking for excuses, or that we're dramatic.
You know yourself better than anyone else.
